Eike Batista has used silicone film for ten years to conceal baldness

Entrepreneur Eike Batista, who has been imprisoned since Monday in Rio on charges of paying bribes to former governor Sérgio Cabral (PMDB), has been using a silicone prosthesis to conceal baldness for at least 10 years.

Vaughn, Eike had his baldness exposed after arrest, when his head was shaved – as is common practice among prisoners – and the prosthesis was removed before being taken to the Bandera Stampa Prison, known as Bangu 9, in the Gericino Complex, in the North Zone of Rio.

According to VEJA, the prosthesis consists of a tailored silicone film filled with micro-holes with diameters of the exact size of the patient’s hair. The yarns are handcrafted. The finished prosthesis is fixed with biological glue on the head – the area that will receive the film is previously scraped.

The method is known by the name of “capillary densification”. The technique was born in Italy, invented by Cesare Ragazzi, almost 50 years ago. It is a non-surgical, non-invasive method and therefore considered 100% safe. The prosthesis is so natural that it is not easily identified with the naked eye and not easily perceived by the touch.

The technique, however, requires monthly maintenance. Eike fulfilled the correct term and was attended in his house, in Rio de Janeiro. The businessman paid all the expenses of the professionals who were moving to attend him. The patient is free to perform any type of movement, including water sports. The average price is around 50 thousand reais.

Eike has already admitted having had a hair implant in 2010, but was not released if the process worked.

This type of transplant is performed with synthetic polyamide wires and are placed on the scalp one by one through a special needle. Up to 5,000 threads can be placed in one session and restoration is immediate. It happens that because it is an inorganic material the organism tends to reject these wires with the passage of the months causing the patient to have to return to the clinic periodically for their replacement and the capillary volume. Sometimes there may be mass rejection of the wires. In addition, there is also a constant concern with scalp hygiene due to the ease of skin-based skin infections (folliculitis) that may be small or generalized. Over time micro scars can be seen in the transplanted area at the site of the rejected hairs or that there was infection compromising the aesthetics of the scalp. In my opinion the hair transplant with the FUE Robotics or FUE Manual technique is the first choice to restore a baldness, except in cases of a very extensive baldness and with a donor area that makes it impossible to cover the bald area completely. In these cases this technique may be an option for those who do not want to remain bald, but have to be aware of the difficulties, mentioned above, that they bring after their implantation.
